OVERVIEW Purpose The purpose of the mentorship program is for the student to have a professional who can provide advice and support on their academic, career, or personal goals. Time Commitment The mentorship commitment is for the spring semester. Donah Justice will reach out after spring to see if mentors and mentee would be available for the fall. For the spring, mentors and mentees will meet once a month in February, March, and April for at least an hour. May can be optional depending on schedules, where pairs can meet more frequently if schedules permit. Location For the meetings, the option to meet in-person on campus, Zoom or Teams, or a phone call with a mentee. If looking for a space to meet on campus, the Office of Outreach has rooms available in the suite. Meetings and Goals For the first meeting, mentors and mentees can discuss their degree and career paths. At the end of the meeting, the student can decide a goal they would like to complete by the end of the semester (ex. get a “A” in a course, learn more about a specific topic, update resume). Each month mentor and mentee can do a check in to see how the goal is going. A mentee goal handout will be provided to be utilized in the meetings. The handout has a note and follow up action items list. In addition, a discussion question to mentors and mentees each month that can be used as a resource for conversation will be sent.
